Thursday, January 30th, the Contemporary Arts Center held their SweetArts 2014 Honorees Party at the stately English Turn home of Robin Burgess and Terrence Blanchard.

Guests were treated to divine cuisine by Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House who produced a sumptuous menu.

Robin and Terrence’s home was the ideal location to host this noteworthy event.  Surrounded by art and music (and four Grammy awards, way cool!) , the night was filled with excitement from the moment you entered the house.  As the party progressed for the evening so did the night’s eclectic entertainment.  As walked in the house, they were greeted by the Faubourg Quartet, a beautiful classical ensemble, then upstairs in the martini bar (or the den) the NOCCA Jazz Quartet came alive.  Before the dedication for philanthropist Allen Eskew, there was an operatic performance by Giovanna Joseph, and then evening ended with a poolside dance party presided over by DJ Brice Nice.

The SweetArts 2014 Honorees are The Helis Foundation represented by David Kerstein, Hannibal Lokumbe, Mary Jane Parker, Paul J. Tines and Gretchen and Roger Wheaton.  The touching dedication to Allen Eskew, who SweetArts 2014 is dedicated, was stirring.  Executive Director Neil A. Barclay discussed the    new exhibition opening the night of SweetArts 2014 on February 7, 2014.  30 Americans is a showcase of the works of many of the most important African American artists of the last three decades.  Tackling issues from racism to sexual identity, this exhibition boasts pieces from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Reneee Green, and Purvis Young to name a few https://helmii.com/collections/beds.  This year’s co-chairs of the event are Robin Burgess, Terrence Blanchard and Mary Clare and Danny Conwill.  For more information on SweetArts 2014 or to get tickets, go to www.cacno.org.

Tony Leggio is a born and raised New Orleanian. He has over 20 years of event management experience having produced over 5,000 events locally and nationally. Tony has received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements in the hospitality industry.
